Brand new to our team, please welcome Jessica MacPherson, B.Sc., Student of Osteopathic Manual Practice

Jessica is currently a 4th year student at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and expects to graduate in the fall of 2017. She has always been fascinated by the human body and decided that osteopathy was the right path for her after receiving osteopathic treatment for a neck injury.

Prior to being introduced to osteopathy Jessica completed a Bachelor of Science in human kinetics at the University of Guelph. During this time she gained both clinical and field experience working within the athletic therapy department.  Since beginning her studies of classical osteopathy in 2012 she has continued to develop her clinical skills and experience across a diverse patient group.

She is excited to be joining the Back in Motion team and is looking forward to serving the St. Catharines Community.

Osteopathy is a gentle form of manual therapy that focuses on the relationship between structure and function that exists within the human body. The practitioner uses an extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics to identify patterns that exist within the body, and areas where structural asymmetry and restriction may be causing dysfunction.

Osteopathy is founded on the belief that when the obstructions to the flow of nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics are removed, the body has an inherent capacity to heal and regulate itself.

During this type of treatment the practitioner considers the body as a whole and uses gentle manual treatment applications to improve balance and mobility within all of it’s systems so that health and stability may be restored.
